Project Goals & Approach:
The nature of contemporary family structure has undergone drastic shifts in the past 50 years. Although the marriage decline is a universal demographic trend, this pattern is far more pronounced among African Americans and Black Caribbeans. In this set of papers, I use primary data collected from 300+ Black and White middle-class women aged 28-45 in order to understand their plans (and perceived barriers) for partnering, motherhood, companionship, and caregiving across the life course.
