Telemonitoring Enhanced Support for Depression Self Management

Principal Investigator:
James Aikens, MD (University of Michigan Department of Internal Medicine)

Funded by:
National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH)

Project Goals & Approach:
This NIMH RO1 will: (1) Conduct an RCT to compare the effectiveness of telemonitoring-supported CPs (CP; intervention) versus usual care (control) on six-month measures of depression severity among low-income primary care patients; (2) Examine key secondary outcomes (response and remission rates, depression-related functional impairment, positive well-being, support burden, and healthcare costs) and explore 12-month outcomes and potential moderators; and (3) Use mixed-methods approaches to understand how the intervention activates its users and identify strategies to enhance its potential for real-world translation.
