Julie Ober Allen


Julie Ober Allen, PhD, MPH, is a postdoctoral fellow at the Institute for Social Research. She received her PhD from the Department of Health Behavior and Health Education at the University of Michigan School of Public Health.

Prior to beginning her doctoral studies, Dr. Allen contributed to a variety of community-based research, intervention, and evaluation projects to reduce health disparities as a member of the Center on Men’s Health Disparities (UM), the Prevention Research Center of Michigan (UM), and the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (MSU). Dr. Allen’s research interests are to better understand and address how social determinants of health contribute to gender role strain and disparities in chronic disease, with a particular focus on  African American men.
